Ilana Sultan

Ilana Sultan is a senior counsel at the SEC’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act unit in Washington, DC.

Sultan worked on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act unit’s case against casino and resort company Las Vegas Sands Corp, which paid a US$9 million penalty to settle charges it violated the FCPA by failing to document millions of dollars in payments to a consultant working in China and Macao.

Sultan also worked on an investigation into accountancy firm EY, resolved in October 2016 when the firm agreed to pay US$11.8 million over its failure to detect fraud at oil company Weatherford.

Weatherford in September 2016 paid US$140 million to settle SEC charges that it inflated earnings by using deceptive accounting. The company also settled FCPA charges with the SEC in 2013 over bribes in the Middle East and North Africa, paying US$250 million to settle SEC charges and parallel actions by several US government agencies.
