William Schurmann

William Schurmann, a former assistant US attorney in the District of Columbia, joined the fraud section’s FCPA unit in August 2019 as a trial attorney. 

During his five-year tenure at the DC attorney’ office, Schurmann oversaw several criminal cases including identity theft, illegal possession and trafficking of firearms and armed robberies.  

In June 2019, Schurmann tried a fraud case in which the defendant, Thelmiah Lee, pleaded guilty to multiple identity thefts. For years, Lee was fraudulently obtaining thousands of dollars in unemployment benefits by stealing people’s identities including his own brother. Lee pleaded guilty to two felony counts of first degree identity theft in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

Prior to joining the DOJ, Schurmann spent five years as an associate at Williams & Connolly. He received his law degree from Cornell University in 2008.
