Jonathan Lopez
One-time Foreign Corrupt Practices Act prosecutor Jonathan Lopez is now a partner with Allen & Overy.
While a senior trial attorney at the DOJ, Lopez handled a case against movie executives who were convicted of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations. Those charges stemmed from a bribery scheme to secure contracts from the government of Thailand to run the country's annual film festival. Lopez, along with recent FCPA unit hire Bruce Searby, successfully prosecuted film executives Gerald Green and Patricia Green for paying Juthamas Siriwan, the ex-governor of the Tourism Authority, and her daughter, Jittisopa Siriwan, US$1.8 million, according to court documents. The Greens received US$13.5 million in revenue from the contracts.
Between 2011 and 2014, Lopez served as deputy chief of the bank integrity unit inside the criminal division's assest forfeiture and money laundering section (AFMLS), where he participated in the ramping up of Bank Secrecy Act investigations.
Lopez previously worked as a prosecutor in the Miami US Attorney’s Office from 2003 to 2006. Lopez also was an associate in the corporate department of Sidley Austin in Los Angeles from 2000 to 2003.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1997. Georgetown University Law Center awarded his law degree in 2000.
