Jennifer Saulino

Jennifer Lynn Saulino joined the fraud section of the Justice Department’s criminal division in 2010, and was assigned to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act unit as an assistant chief after the departure of Matt Queler in February 2016.

In September 2016, Saulino moved to Wilkinson Walsh & Eskovitz, a firm that was launched in January by two former partners of Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison.

Saulino’s climb through the ranks of the fraud section has taken her on a tour of its different litigation units. Upon her arrival at the Justice Department, Saulino focused on healthcare fraud and was assigned to the Medicare Fraud Strike Force. In 2011, she received the DOJ’s Award for Outstanding Contributions by a New Employee for her work prosecuting more than 20 individuals associated with the American Therapeutic Corporation, which allegedly defrauded Medicare by submitting US$200 million in false billings for mental healthcare services. The Justice Department at the time also noted that Saulino had obtained three of the largest healthcare fraud prison sentences in US history.

Saulino was later appointed to pursue criminal charges in relation to the 2010 BP oil spill at the Macondo Prospect in the Gulf of Mexico, and in 2013 prosecuted a former BP engineer involved in the efforts to halt the spill for obstruction of justice. In 2014, Saulino took charge of the still-active Deepwater Horizon Task Force after the departure of its previous director, William Pericak.

More recently, Saulino led the prosecution of Deutsche Bank, which in 2015 settled charges that it engaged in rigging the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR), the interest rate benchmark.

Before joining the Justice Department, Saulino worked for eight years as an associate at Covington & Burling. The firm in 2004 recognised Saulino for committing substantial hours to pro bono legal services.

Saulino graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and attended Yale University, where she studied political science and government. She has contributed to the 2006 congressional campaign of former US representative and current Ohio Democrat senator Tom Sawyer and the 2008 presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.
