Former Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom partner Greg Craig, who is scheduled to stand trial over allegations he misled authorities about work for Ukraine, will call Arnold & Porter partner Amy Jeffress as an expert witness.
Craig has been charged with making false statements regarding the firm’s need to register as a foreign agent for a report it was comissioned to write by the Ukranian government in 2012. The report was published in 2013. Craig denies wrongdoing.
Craig said in a 10 June filing that Jeffress will testify that it was a commonly held belief among lawyers during those years that preparing a report for a foreign government didn’t require Foreign Agents Registration Act registration.
India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs has reportedly filed a petition to ban Deloitte and KPMG’s Indian affiliate, BSR, from performing audits in India for five years.
Both Big Four firms reportedly audited Indian company Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services, which the Indian government placed into liquidation in October 2018 after it missed a series of debt repayments.
Indian prosecutors reportedly told a New Delhi court on 11 June that both auditors “miserably failed to fulfil the duty entrusted to them” and face bans under section 140 of India’s Companies Act.
Both firms denied wrongdoing.
