Sri Lankan police are investigating whether the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) paid a US$1.1 million bribe to the failed election campaign of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who left office in January.

Sri Lanka to set up fraud office

Sri Lanka prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said the country will set up a financial fraud investigations office by the end of the year, according to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Speaking to Sri Lanka's parliament on 28 April, Wickremasinghe said the office's staff will receive training from the UK, India and the World Bank.
