DOJ secures conviction of ex-Guinean mining official for laundering bribes

Mahmoud Thiam, a former Guinean mining official, was convicted by a Manhattan jury on 3 May of laundering US$8.5 million in bribes that he allegedly received from Chinese investors in exchange for promoting a lucrative investment deal.
