DOJ dismisses ex-minister’s explanation of suspect Chinese payment
Former Republic of Guinea minister for mines Mahmoud Thiam told the FBI that a US$8.5 million payment he accepted from a Chinese conglomerate while negotiating a mining contract was an interest-free personal loan, according to court documents.
