Baker Botts

Baker Botts’ DC white-collar investigations team features Clinton-era DOJ criminal division fraud section chief Mary Spearing, who has racked up a number of high-profile FCPA cases, including the defences of Texas engineering contractor Halliburton and oil producer Noble.

GIR 40 under 40 lawyer Jeremy Levin also works out of Baker Botts’ Washington office. Levin was part of the team that successfully defended Houston oil company Cobalt from an SEC FCPA charge, convincing commission staff to drop the case four months after government attorneys had recommended a civil enforcement action.

Julia Guttman focuses her practice on white-collar defence, and currently represents a smattering of foreign currency traders under investigation over potential manipulation of the FOREX rates.

Alex Bourelly heads the law firm’s securities regulation and enforcement practice. A former senior counsel at the SEC and prosecutor at the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Bourelly has represented numerous international pharmaceutical and oil companies in criminal investigations before the SEC and DoJ.

Other DC partners who advise on FCPA matters include Amy Conway-Hatcher, Kyle Clark, and Mark Miller.
