Ernesto Palacios

Ernesto Palacios is a senior counsel in the SEC’s FCPA unit, working from in the regulator’s regional office in Miami.

Palacios joined the SEC straight out of law school, as part of its graduate hiring programme, having gained his juris degree at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law in 2001. At undergraduate level he studied political science at Florida International University.

In 2010, Palacios was promoted to his current role in the FCPA unit, where his work primarily focuses on cases tied to Latin America.

Since then he has brought several notable foreign bribery cases, including settlements with Alcatel-Lucent, Tidewater and, most recently, Embraer. The Brazilian aircraft maker paid US$205 million to US and Brazilian authorities to resolve bribery allegations spanning Latin America, Africa and Asia.
