Sylvia Urquiza graduated in 1992 from the Law School Pontifícia Universidade Católica in São Paulo. She specialised in criminal economic European law at the University of Coimbra. She is a member of the São Paulo Lawyers Association and of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences. She has been registered at the Brazilian Bar Association since 1992. She became vice-president of the Brazilian Chapter at ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners) in 2012. Ms Urquiza has been listed by Chambers Latin America, since 2009, as among the best criminal lawyers in Brazil (band one), and by Latin Lawyer, since 2012, as among the best criminal lawyers in Brazil (band one). The local specialised publication Revista Análise Advocacia 500, since 2012, has listed her among the most admired criminal lawyers in the country.
