Patrick Roath maintains a hybrid practice, advising clients on both corporate finance transactions and litigation disputes.

Patrick’s corporate practice has a particular focus on specialty finance entities such as special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). As a litigator, Patrick represents clients in complex matters at all stages of litigation and enforcement proceedings. He has argued cases in federal trial and appellate courts, and frequently advises private equity firms and their portfolio companies.

Patrick served as the principal policy aide on former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s 2020 presidential campaign, and clerked for Judge William J. Kayatta Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Patrick maintains a robust pro bono voting rights practice. In April 2020, he organized and successfully litigated a constitutional challenge to restrictive Massachusetts ballot access laws in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Patrick is the Chair of the Governing Board of Common Cause Massachusetts. Before attending law school, he served as an aide to former Governor Patrick and a Fulbright English teaching fellow in rural Malaysia.
