Murat N Akuyev is a partner based in the Moscow office of Cleary Gottlieb. Mr Akuyev’s practice focuses on Russian regulatory matters, including antitrust investigations and foreign strategic investments law matters. As part of his practice, he appeared on behalf of clients before special commissions formed by Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service. He also has extensive experience in the full range of corporate and financial transactions, particularly securities offerings, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions.
Vedomosti, Russia’s leading business newspaper, has previously named Mr Akuyev as a leading lawyer in Russia. He is also distinguished as a leading Russian lawyer by Chambers Global and Chambers Europe.
Mr Akuyev has advised on a variety of disputes, including advising one of Russia’s largest oil pump and compressor production groups in three litigations. He regularly advises on corporate governance matters (including to independent members of boards of directors) and in internal and regulatory investigations.
Mr Akuyev joined the firm in 1995 and became a partner in 2008. He was previously resident in the London office. Mr Akuyev received an LLM degree from New York University School of Law in 1995 and a JD equivalent, with highest honours, from the Moscow Institute for International Relations (MGIMO) in 1994. He also graduated from Beijing Language Institute in 1992.
Mr Akuyev is a member of the Bar of New York and is a Russian qualified lawyer. His native language is Russian, he is fluent in English and has basic knowledge of Kazakh and Mandarin.
