Melvin is the head of the dispute resolution practice in Asia. He has broad commercial litigation and arbitration experience and regularly advises many of the global financial institutions and corporations on their most sensitive and complex disputes and regulatory investigations. He also co-heads the restructuring and insolvency practice in Asia and was the lead partner advising the liquidators of Lehman Brothers and MF Global.His experience includes: advising the Big Four firms of auditors in various regulatory inquiries relating to the investigation by the SEC into reverse takeovers by Chinese issuers; acting for HSBC International Trustee in a multimillion-dollar proceedings relating to the RREEF China Commercial Trust; advising several global financial institutions in relation to regulatory investigations concerning their role as sponsors in initial public offerings; advising KPMG, as liquidators in the liquidation of certain Lehman Brothers Asia companies involving assets and liabilities valued in excess of several billion US dollars; acting for a Middle Eastern private equity firm in an ICC arbitration involving a multimillion-US-dollar damages claim arising out of a shareholder dispute pertaining to wind energy assets in Inner Mongolia; acting for COSCO Group in defending a multimillion-dollar claim by Greater Beijing Region Expressways relating to infrastructure assets in China; as well as acting for a major US energy company in London-seated arbitration proceedings relating to a US$80 million claim arising out of its oil and gas projects in India.Melvin is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
