Maria Athanasiou practiced international arbitration as an associate with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, in the firm's London office. Ms Athanasiou worked on disputes under the ICC, UNCITRAL, VIAC and ICSID Rules. She also gave lessons and presentations to students in arbitration and comparative law topics at US law schools sited in London. Until recently, Ms Athanasiou was in Cyprus working on domestic and international commercial litigation. She was also appointed as the assistant honorary secretary of the Cypriot International Arbitration Centre and heads the Committee on the Revision of the Arbitration Rules of the same centre. Currently, Ms Athanasiou is based in Switzerland, pursuing further studies and research in international dispute resolution. Ms Athanasiou is qualified to practice in New York and is a graduate of Warwick University (LLB 2005, Honors) and Georgetown University Law Centre (LLM 2006).
