José Valentín González was admitted to practise law in Venezuela in 1991. He obtained his law degree in 1990 and a specialisation degree in administrative law in 1994, both from Andres Bello Cathoic University of Caracas. He is a candidate for a specialisation degree in criminal law at the Andres Bello Cathoic University. Mr González was a member of the board of the Faculty of Law of Andres Bello Cathoic University in 1996–1997 and a member of the university council in 1989–1990.Mr González has been recognised as a top practitioner in public law in Venezuela by international publications such as Chambers and Partners and Legal 500. He received the ‘Client Choice International Award’ granted in 2013 and 2014 by the International Law Office in the ‘General Corporate’ category.Mr González has been a partner of D’Empaire Reyna Abogados since 2001. He is head of the public law department and the criminal law department of D’Empaire Reyna Abogados.He has been a professor of public law in the Faculty of Law of Andres Bello Cathoic University since 1993, and professor of administrative law since 1994 (and chairman of that subject since 2010). He has conducted seminars in electoral law (1993–1994) and constitutional law (1995–1996) in that faculty of law.Mr González clerked for Justice Humberto J La Roche in the Political-Administrative Chamber of the Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice from 1996 to 1999.
