Johannes Schmidt is an associate of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP based in the Frankfurt office. He advises clients in a broad range of practice areas, with a particular focus in the field of transnational litigation, arbitration and enforcement. A large part of his practice is devoted to acting as counsel in cross-border arbitrations and representing clients before national courts in cartel follow-on damages actions. He also regularly represents and advises sovereign issuers in bondholder litigation in the aftermath of sovereign debt restructuring measures. He received a doctorate in law (Dr iur) from the University of Hamburg in 2010. He passed his second state examination in the State of Hamburg in 2011 and the first state examination at the University of Hamburg in 2008.
