Jodi Avergun is the chair of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP’s white-collar defence and investigations group, based in the firm’s Washington, DC, office. Her practice focuses on representing corporations and individuals in criminal and regulatory matters involving, among other things, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Her experience in FCPA matters includes directing due diligence reviews in connection with mergers and acquisitions in a number of industries and jurisdictions; designing and implementing robust FCPA compliance policies, systems and training for corporate clients; and counselling clients in voluntary disclosures of FCPA violations. Jodi also advises clients in securities enforcement, healthcare and other white-collar matters, and has successfully represented both companies and senior executives in internal investigations, matters before regulatory bodies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, and civil and criminal matters in federal court.
Jodi was an Assistant US Attorney and a member of the Senior Executive Service in the US Department of Justice for 17 years. She was recognised in the 2014 edition of The Legal 500 US as a ‘Key Individual’ in the white-collar criminal defence area and was named one of the 2016 ‘150 Women in White Collar’ by Corporate Crime Reporter. Additionally, Cadwalader was named a ‘Highly Recommended’ firm for FCPA by Global Investigations Review in its 2016 rankings of the FCPA Bar in Washington, DC.
