Professional experience

Francisco M Serrano is a partner in the litigation and arbitration department at Garrigues, where he has spent almost his entire professional career. He has a wealth of experience in domestic civil and commercial litigation and arbitration and specialises in international arbitration, above all handling disputes conducted in English.

His extensive experience of international arbitration proceedings before the most prestigious institutions, above all in Europe (such as the CCI, the LCIA, the Zurich Chamber of Commerce, etc), has placed him at the forefront of the firm’s international arbitration practice.

He has taken part in some of the most high-profile cases at Garrigues, above all of a contractual nature, advising and defending clients in the industrial, construction, shipping, automobile, energy, hotel and pharmaceutical sectors, to name but a few. He can also boast broad-ranging experience in cases of unfair competition and the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and awards.

Francisco M Serrano has been singled out for inclusion in leading legal directories such as The Legal 500 and Best Lawyers as a noteworthy lawyer in the litigation and arbitration practice and in the words of one of the directories has been praised by clients as “outstanding in all respects”.

He has lectured on the master’s degree in business law at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He has also taught on the master’s degree in Energy Law offered by Club Español de la Energía, and is a teacher on the LLM in International Transactions offered by the Centro Estudios Garrigues, and he has spoken at seminars and conferences at an array of specialist centres (IBA, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, etc).

Francisco M Serrano is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and belongs to the Spanish Arbitration Club and its Mediation Commission.
