Brian Spiro is recognised as a leader in his field by all the independent legal directories. A partner in the corporate crime and investigations team of Herbert Smith Freehills in London, Brian specialises in high-loss business crime litigation, fraud and regulatory matters and has expertise in international law, including mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, overseas corruption and corporate investigations.

After a period as a parliamentary adviser, Brian trained as a solicitor with Clifford Chance and Simons Muirhead & Burton, London, qualifying as a solicitor in 1984.

Brian was a member of the Law Society’s subcommittee and chair of the London Criminal Court Solicitors’ Association subcommittee responding to the UK government’s proposals on fraud law reform. He is lead author of Police Station Adviser’s Index (Sweet & Maxwell), now in its fourth edition, and has acted as an international consultant to the World Health Organization, the UN and the British Council on criminal law matters.

Brian is a former chair of the Business Crime Committee of the International Bar Association, a current member of Global Investigations Review’s editorial board, and a regular writer and commentator on financial crime and related issues.
