Babajide Ogundipe obtained his LLB from the University of London in July 1978 and was called to the Nigeria Bar in July 1979. After working in Chief Rotimi Williams’ Chambers until September 1989, he co-founded Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe & Belgore. He became a notary public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1991, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 1994. Between 1997 and 2009, he held various positions in the Nigerian Branch of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, serving as chairman from 2006 to 2009. He continues to be engaged in the activities of the Branch, and is an approved tutor of the Institute. He served as President of the Lagos Court of Arbitration from February 2010 to February 2014.He practises primarily as a commercial litigator. As part of this practice, he has been required, since 1980, to conduct investigations into various different types of fraud and other misconduct on behalf of clients in the banking, insurance, petroleum, pharmaceutical and shipping industries. He has also acted on behalf of numerous clients to assist in the recovery of assets lost as a result of fraud and other misfeasance. As a result, he has gained enormous experience, and has come to be recognised as one of Nigeria’s leading lawyers, in these fields.He is a frequent speaker on arbitration, anti corruption and asset recovery issues and on the regulation of the legal profession. He is ICC FraudNet’s Nigeria representative, Africa Regional Officer on the International Bar Association’s Anti-Corruption Committee and Regulation of Lawyers’ Compliance Committee.
