Aurélien Hamelle is a partner in the dispute resolution department of Allen & Overy Paris. He specialises in financial and business criminal law, transnational criminal law as well as defamation, slander and privacy law.Aurélien is well known for having acted on some of the most high profile cases in France during recent years, including the representation of various foreign and national firms in French criminal procedures in relation to the UN “oil-for-food” programme, the “AFER” fraud scandal, and the defence of Dominique de Villepin, the former French Prime Minister, in the Clearstream case. Aurélien has been involved in numerous money laundering, corruption, embargo and international sanction cases for corporate clients in France and the rest of Europe. He assists clients in extradition cases as well as on European arrest warrants. Aurélien has also represented the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in their breach of privacy case against Closer magazine.Lead counsel for Daimler AG in the EADS alleged insider dealing case, Aurélien has so far successfully challenged the constitutionality of the French dual prosecution mechanism before the regulatory watchdog and the criminal courts.
