GIR Connect: What to expect under the Biden administration

In-house counsel will discuss how to manage a crisis and government officials will talk about the latest enforcement trends and initiatives at GIR Connect: US on 26 May.

The afternoon event, co-chaired by Karen Popp at Sidley Austin and Ryan Rohlfsen at Ropes & Gray, will cover the changing white-collar landscape under a new Biden administration.

The conference will kick-off with a panel on “what’s keeping practitioners up at night (or should be)”. The panel – which will feature Michael Bosworth of Latham & Watkins, Cormac Connor at Smith Pachter McWhorter and Meaghan Schmidt at AlixPartners – will discuss a range of topics, including new Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement hot spots and compliance post-covid.

After a networking break, in-house counsel from investment firm TPG, information technology company Hewlett Packard Enterprise and retailer Home Depot will tell virtual audience members about how to manage a crisis. The in-house lawyers will discuss how to respond to a dawn raid, whistleblower investigations and more.

In the final panel, US enforcers will talk about enforcement priorities, monitorships and expected initiatives under the Biden administration. The panel will feature three senior officials at the US Department of Justice, including acting fraud section chief Dan Kahn, environmental crimes section chief Deborah Harris and acting antitrust division chief Richard Powers. Melissa Hodgman, the acting enforcement director of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, will also participate on the panel.
