French prosecutors impose €1 billion bail on HSBC
HSBC’s UK parent company must pay €1 billion bail after French prosecutors placed the bank under formal investigation over conduct by its Swiss unit. In a statement on 9 April, the bank said the charges are “without legal basis and the bail is unwarranted and excessive,” and added that it plans to appeal against the decision.
