Michele Tagliaferri represents corporate and individual clients in internal investigations and white collar criminal matters, including matters arising under the FCPA and other anti-bribery legislations.

Michele also assists clients in developing, auditing and enhancing compliance programs, as well as conducting anti-corruption compliance training courses. He routinely conducts compliance reviews, risk assessments, and due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and third-party engagements.

He also has experience with EU data privacy and cross-border discovery and counsels clients on how to effectively manage data privacy risks, particularly in EU-U.S. cross-border investigations.

A lawyer licensed to practice law in New York, Washington, D.C., Italy and Belgium, Michele features prominently in the International Who's Who of Investigations Lawyers. Prior to joining the Brussels office, Michele practiced in Sidley’s Washington, D.C. office.

The scope of Michele’s practice is reflected in his recent representations, including:

  • Representing a global pharmaceutical company in a DOJ investigation and an internal investigation into allegations of improper payments by employees of its Italian subsidiary
  • Representing a U.S.-based pharmaceutical company in an investigation regarding alleged improper payments by employees of a subsidiary’s office in the UK
  • Conducting an anti-corruption risk assessment and post-acquisition integration on behalf of a U.S. pharmaceutical company in connection with its acquisition of an Irish company with operations in Europe, Asia and Latin America
  • Conducting anti-bribery due diligence in connection with the acquisition of a Eastern European company by a global pharmaceutical company
